Walking for Those Left Behind – An Evening with Shane
Join us for an evening with Shane as he shares the story behind his journey walking the length of New Zealand from Cape Reinga to Bluff.
Shane’s journey was created to raise awareness of an often-overlooked part of the conversation around suicide - what happens for the partners, parents, children, friends and whānau who are left behind.
While suicide prevention receives important attention, Shane also wants to highlight the need for ongoing support for those navigating life after a suicide loss. This can be particularly challenging in rural communities, where access to counselling, support services and opportunities for connection may be limited.
Through his journey, Shane is helping to start conversations, reduce stigma and raise funds to strengthen practical and ongoing support.
Come along to hear Shane speak about his journey, what inspired it, the people he has met along the way and the message behind every step.
Supporting those left behind
Funds raised through Shane’s journey are being donated to Te Hauora Murikauhaka Charitable Trust and will help support initiatives including professional counselling, informal coffee groups, grief education, safe spaces for connection and ongoing community support.
